The California Cling Peach Board Fact Sheet

Original Board Established:
The first Peach Program was made effective under the Marketing Act on August 4, 1937. The California Cling Peach Advisory Board reorganized to form the current group, the CCPB, in 1996.

Current Board Established: May 1996

Goal: To promote California Cling Peaches domestically and internationally while at the same time competing with the rising tide of imports. To create an environment which enhances the use of the Cling Peach through industry standards, research and innovation.

Strategies: The California Cling Peach Board works in conjunction with the California Canning Peach Association which is responsible for marketing its member-growers’ fruit and bargains for the price and terms of sale for California Cling Peach growers.

Growers: The Board represents all Cling Peach growers in the state numbering approximately 700.

Term: Board members serve a three-year term; alternates serve a one-year term and all committees are appointed annually.

Product: Approximately two dozen varieties of California Cling Peaches.

Top Production Counties: Butte, Fresno, Kings, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tulare, and Yuba counties.

Harvest: Late June-early September

Approximate Yearly Tonnage: 450,000-550,000 tons of Cling Peaches harvested and processed nationally. (Nearly one hundred percent of which come from California.)

Approximate Value: When harvested, the Cling Peach crop is estimated at $120 million which increases to over $500 million after processing.

Processors: Del Monte Foods; Signature Fruit, Inc.; Pacific Coast Producers; California Fruit Packing; J.R. Wood; Wawona Frozen Foods and others.
